The Cartographic Work of Patrick T Wood
I am a student at Humboldt State University and I study Geography and Environmental Science with an emphasis in Geospatial Analysis.
My approach to cartography to create a balance between information and something that is pleasing to the eye. Maps should be beautiful but importantly they should convery information with a purpose. Deciding what to display on a map can be challenging but I try to remind myself that individual situations call for individual maps and that it is impossible to fit everything on a single map.
This portfolio consists of a snapshot of my cartographic work. I specifically chose these maps because I feel they are worthy and demonstrate my style. I enjoy creating maps that feel like photographs taken from space or from an airplane by using shaded relfief and land cover data. I also enjoy creating maps that focus on the geographic features of the world rather than the imaginary borders that governments impose on each other.
