Students___*

- Name: Andrea Bartles
- Current project: I am using molecular methods to examine the prokaryotic community composition of Boiling Springs Lake.
- How did you get here? I chose HSU because it is a small school with lots of interaction between students and instructors. I also love the beaches and redwoods of Humboldt County.
- What's next? My goal after graduating is to teach high school biology.
- What else do you do? Outside of school I like taking my dogs to the beach, snowboarding, gardening.

- Name: Luke Hamm.
- Current project: To adapt TaqMan qPCR to the problem of quantifying the number of individuals in Boiling Springs Lake, because, thus far, the BSL microbes have not been amenable to culture, and it is perceived that real time PCR quantification of individuals is more accurate.
- How did you get here? I'm originally from southwestern New Hampshire where I spent my freshman and sophomore years at Keene State College. I transferred to HSU in the Fall of 2003 and worked with Patty during the summer of 2004.
- What's next? . I plan to work with Patty this summer to try to culture some of theheterotrophic microorganisms that live in Boiling Springs Lake.
- What else do you do? In my spare time I enjoy reading: Derrick Jensen, Haruki Murakami, Douglas Adams, Dan Simmons, and Stendahl, among others; and hiking around in Prairie Creek Redwoods SP. I live with my partner, Christy Burke in Arcata. I'm too weird to come to the phone right now but if you'll leavea message I'll get back to you as soon as I figure out what is normalanyway.

- Name: Allison Anacker
- Current project: Sequencing 16s rRNA from Boiling Springs Lake
- How did you get here?I transferred to HSU this year from Santa Rosa Junior College. I chose this school because of the great biology department, the emphasis on undergraduate research, and the great location. I started doing research this semester, after taking Genetics with Mark last semester.
- What’s next? I hope to graduate next spring, and then I will go on to graduate school, possibly here or in Washington, my home state. I want to have a career in behavioral genetics research.
- What else do you do? I like to be in the sunshine whenever possible, either relaxing and reading, or doing outdoor activities like walking, hiking, or camping.

- Name: Christopher White
- Current project: I am using TRFLP to examine the prokaryotic community composition of Boiling Springs Lake.
- How did you get here? Originally by car however I have also took the bus and hitchhiked
- What's next? Medical School
- What else do you do? Outside of school I spend a lot of time rockclimbing, hiking, dancing at festivals (and in my living room), spending time with my girlfriend, practicing massage, building websites, and examining existential questions that relate to conversational dynamics.
