This course is designed to introduce basic mathematical concepts needed for further study of mathematics. In this course you will learn how to: carefully read and understand mathematical definitions and proofs; construct examples and proofs; write proofs conforming to accepted guidelines of mathematical exposition. The course topics are: mathematical reasoning, writing, and proofs; sets; functions; topics in discrete mathematics; problem formulation; and problem solving. This course may seem different than other mathematics courses you have taken in that the emphasis is more on writing proofs than computing.
