RE: Discussion Questions for Apprentice Teachers and Mentor Teachers, Spring Semester
As your apprentice teacher approaches the Spring semester, it is important to address the the following list of discussion questions. I am hopeful that you will be able to find some time before mid-December for a discussion so that your apprentice teacher can return this form to me. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 826-4788 or at go1@humboldt.edu. Thank you for your cooperation.
- What are your expectations of me next semester?
- I have prepared a preliminary letter to notify parents that I will be taking over the class next semester. Could you please review it and make any appropriate changes?
- Is it appropriate for me to develop my own classroom management and discipline plan as long as it conforms with the school’s specific policies?
- How will I take attendance?
- How will I document grades - manually or electronically? If electronically, how will I be trained in the school’s program?
- When is a parent-teacher conference necessary? Will I be able to attend parent-teacher conferences?
- Will I be solely responsible for grading/evaluating students in my classroom?
- What should I do if I learn that one of my students is at risk of, or is being abused?
- What should I do if a student misses 5 or more days without my being notified?
- What if I suspect/know a student has learning disabilities? Where do I direct them?
- How will my absences be handled?
- How will you formally/informally evaluate my progress throughout the semester?
I have discussed these questions with my student teacher.
