HSU students must attend 8 meetings of St. Alban’s Spiritual Study Forum in Arcata and/or Christ Episcopal Church in Eureka, on Sunday mornings from approximately 9am until 10:30am. This forum investigates issues of religious, personal, and ethical significance. One need not be religious to take this course; it is also a community forum for education about issues of spiritual significance set in a religious context.
Welcome to the Spiritual Study Forum!
My name is Mary Bockover and I'm the instructional liaison for this experiential learning course through the Department of Philosophy. My role is simply to act as a bridge so I can offer you educational opportunities in the community. Understand that this course is self-directed, so you will be responsible for your getting to the forums and for documenting your participation at the end of the semester. Please email me if you have any questions, or contact me by phone. The Spiritual Study Schedule for St. Alban’s for this semester will be sent soon but is subject to change, and still needs to be filled out in places, but it will let you know roughly what the semester has to offer. Call before if you need to have the spiritual study topic verified, 822-4102 at St. Alban’s or 442-1797 at Christ Church. (Call Christ Church to make arrangements for picking up a copy of their schedule). You can pick and choose the forums you attend, depending upon the convenience of location and the desirability of the topic. Also know that being a participant does not require any religious or spiritual orientation on your part, only a willingness to learn with an open mind. It is set in a religious context however, so be prepared for the fact that many (but not all) present at these forums will be Episcopalian. The forums are held every Sunday from approximately 9 -10:15am. St. Albans Episcopal Church is in Sunny Brae in Arcata at 1675 Chester Avenue and Christ Episcopal Church is on 15th and H Streets in Eureka. At the end of the semester, provide for me an accounting of the forums that you attended. I hope to meet you sooner than that however, either at one of the forums or in my office.
