Description
This map was created in Arc Map and then moved into Adobe Illustrator to fix layout and explanatory text. The data used to construct this map came from the United States Department of Commerce: US Census Bureau, US Energy Information, and California Government websites. The data collection was a difficult task because this was my first time making a map from raw data without a professor directing the progress of the map. The analysis of the data was calculated in Arc Map and represented by a choropleth format. The color scheme was researched online and inputted while the map was still in Arc Map. Once the map was ready for final touch ups, the map was exported to Adobe Illustrator. In Adobe, majority of the time was taken to display and change layout of the information. The grid was used to a line everything so each element seemed proportioned and lined up with all the other elements of the map. This map was a final project in the cartography class and was challenging and took a lot of time to accomplish. This map is a story that the data was showing but was too dull to view in Excel spreadsheets. Now, a viewer has a pleasant experience interpreting the data. This map is best viewed as a big print. In the fall of 2014, a copy of this map will be displayed in the hallway of Founders Hall at HSU.
