I am currently attending Humboldt State University (HSU) in California.I am graduating May 14th, 2016. I am studying Environmental Science: Climate and Energy with a minor is Geospatial Analysis. I am currently aiming to graduate HSU with skills and knowledge I can use in my future career. Presently I have completed many classes for my mjor and my minor that have taught me a great deal that I can apply to a potenial future jobs.
I am currently holding a 3.9 GPA and this 3.9 is not just a number but shows the dedication to each class I have taken. In every class, I want to learn as much as possible from the text, activities, and professors. This website is product of one class, GSP 316 or better known as Introductory Cartography. This class gave some unexpected skill sets. In the class, we used MAC and PC to use both Arc Map and Adobe Illustrator to create maps. Also learning some HTML coding to have basic understanding of website design.
Reflection Of GSP 316
Over the course of the GSP 316 class, I have improved my computer skills considerably. I can use MAC and Adobe Illustrator with little problems. I came into the class only have dealt with a MAC computer once and now I love the ability to have both PC and MAC interfaces on one computer. The most challenging obstacle I came across was deciding on the layout for a map. I could do the analysis, create a color scheme, write explanatory text, and decide text but once it came to putting the final project into a certain layout, I could not decide. I understood the concept of using a grid but the physical placement of what elements should be where on the map was a difficult task. I have gotten better at determining a layout that would work for data but still more to learn on the topic. In the future, I can see myself using the skills I have acquired to making a make for employers or for a project that the data needs to be alive and not a dull spreadsheet.
