California's Rattlesnakes

California is home to ten native species of rattlesnakes. The majority of the diversity is located in the deserts of southeastern California. The web-application above allows you to observe rattlesnake diversity in all 58 of California's counties. Simply use the selection tool to click on the county you are interested in and a list of images and links for each rattlesnakes located in that county will appear on the right. The links will take you to the CalHerps webpage, created by Gary Nafis, which will provide you with basic informaiton on each species. In addition, the interactive map above allows you to view the range of each rattlesnake within the state of Caliornia. The range data from each species was gathered from NaturalEarth. Subspecies, such as the Northern Pacific rattlesnake, had ranges that were clipped from the data from NaturalEarth using range estimates from CalHerps.
