Logo Design

Visual Problem:

To design a professional logo for the Humboldt State University Library. Alongside the instructor and the library staff, the parameters were to take in and analyze the aesthetic of the library at HSU. Discussing as a group with the library staff and the instructor, the logo requirements and ideals were identified. A mixture of open-ended ideas and the aesthetic of the libraryÕs mission created the details of what the logo should symbolize.

Solution:

By first outlining and designing a varying of sketches for the logo I was able to address what would and would not work for the aesthetic of the library. I then took the designs into illustrator to graphically illustrate them. I chose a number of font typefaces before finding one that was a balance of friendliness, welcoming and strenth in standing alongside the logo design. I chose to work with pantone colors, ones that are similar to the HSUÕs design colors. With the final design I edited a mockup of the final logo; one in color and one in black. I also included Photoshoped versions of the of the final logo design on a varying of platforms; a folder, pencils and on a screenshot of the HSU library webpage.- keywords: design, typography, logo
