Self Guided Tour

Spring, 2015

– Humboldt State University, self guided, Environmental Interpretion, brochure, print

Design Problem

Construct a Self Guided Tour brochure that takes the audience throughout Humboldt State University campus or the Arcata Community Forest. This brochure can be on natural or cultural history and must be interpretive not just informative. Be sure to include clear directions between stops and how to get back to the start.

Design Solution

Humboldt State University is over 100 years old, so I wanted to put together a Self Guided Tour of the history around Humboldt State, specifically about the people various buildings are named after. I organized the tour in chronological order starting with the first building of campus and continuing with other buildings with interesting stories.

I wanted this brochure to have an older look as it is talking about the history of campus. I included a worn parchment paper background black and white photos with worn out edges to achieve this. I also wanted the audience to feel as if they were stepping into the history of campus so the flaps of the brochure before getting to the stops along the Tour looks like you are opening up Founders Hall.
