Design Problem
The Waste Reduction and Recycling Awareness Program on the Humboldt State University Campus has always had a struggle getting the waste outside the Ceramics Lab to be properly sorted. Work in a group to design a sign to go outside the Humboldt State University Ceramics Lab that encourages students to separate their waste and clearly shows which bins various waste goes into.
Design Solution
To catch students eye when they go to throw out their waste my group came up the the theme, Master the art of recycling. We then took pictures of the various bins outside the lab that are used to separate the different waste and put text boxes next to these pictures with a list of what can be put into each bin. This makes it easier for the students to figure out where their waste goes. They only have to find what type of waste they have and double check that it is on the list below.
Throughout the sign we wanted to keep an artistic feel to keep the students attention. To do this we used a fancy modern typeface for the title, a plywood texture background, brush textured lines to separate the theme and body and body and contact information, and a cloth texture to the recycling symbol.
