Design Problem

Compose a logo, label, bottle cap, and 6-pack carrier for the fictitious business West Coast Brewing. After choosing a noun, create a label name by adding an adjective. Keep in mind to use age-appropriate graphics that speak to a craft beer audience. Focus on typography and keeping the message of fun and craft.

Design Solution

I chose the noun wendigo, because of the mystery behind the word. I decided to pair it with the adjective reckless to add a sense of fun to the mystery. I also added another fun aspect by spelling reckless with a W to have the name Wreckless Wendigo.

When it came to the image I was going to use for the wendigo I wanted to find something that was memorable and fun. I found a depiction of the wendigo in an aztec or petroglyph style. I used that idea and made the wendigo look like it was having a good time by giving him a thumbs up and holding a drink of his own. Keeping with the aztec or petroglyph feel I went with a rough handwritten typeface throughout.

The background of the label and carrier are of a sunset on a mountain range. The wendigo is known to come down from the mountains at night and the sunset is the time when the party really starts going, so I decided to combine the two. This continues with the story of the wendigo but also keeps the fun feel to the beer.

Each of the aspects from the wendigos mystery to the fun party feel, are all aspects often found with craft beer. The design overall is simple which is also consistent with most craft beer designs.
