Design Problem
Create a logo to represent the Humboldt State University Library. Some characteristics the Library requested to have represented include, teaching, learning, research, scholarship, curiosity, creativity, and community. This logo must work large, small, in black, and in color, as it will be used on the Library webspace, various swag, and at various locations around the building.
Design Solution
I chose to represent a redwood tree, as Humboldt State University is well known for its redwood trees. The redwood tree by itself represents community, as redwood trees always grow in groups and intertwine their roots to support each other. Books are iconic symbols of a library so I decided to include open books as the layers of the tree to represent learning, research, curiosity. Putting the redwood tree and open books together represent creativity. I used a Humboldt State University green and faded the color to represent an upward movement and growth.
