Design Problem

With a partner compose a type speced Times magazine article that has 4 page layout, a two page cover spread and the first two pages of the article. Recreate that same layout for one of the new articles provided. Use original artwork, can be illustrations or photography.

Design Solution

We chose to recreate the layout for the article The American Nightmare. The article talks about how the American Dream is not the reality for many American families. We decided to use our own photography and create one infographic, as that is what the original article layout had. The opening spread image came from the idea of the commonality of split households in America; the husband and wife pulling at the American flag. Our second photograph is of a child with, what looks like, everything he could want, unhappy and throwing a fit. We also made the background darker to make it feel a little more gloomy. Lastly, our infographic is a simple image of smiling and frowning people holding the flags of Europe and the United States representing happiness levels of parents with children in each of the countries.
