Design Problem
Design a brochure for a department at Humboldt State University using the template created by Marketing and Communications. Use original images or images from the Humboldt State University Flickr page. Focus on an audience of prospective students ranging from 18 to late 20s, while keeping in mind the professionalism of the brochure as their parents will likely be looking at the brochure as well.
Design Solution
I focused on the Environmental Science and Management Department. This includes two different departments with various focuses within each department. I wanted to keep an earthy feel with the color palate so I used blues, greens, and browns, but kept them bright to catch the eye. To add some fun besides the images and colors, I added the floating leaves and quotes by famous environmentalists. Throughout the brochure I focused on the hands-on opportunities students in this department could experience, especially those outside of the classroom.
The information I used in the brochure came directly from the Environmental Science and Management website. I condensed the information to make the brochure more attractive as it is more likely to be read with less text. I organized the information about the specific majors into Why study?, What will you learn?, and the focus options. This way the student knows exactly where to go for the information they are seeking about the major. I made sure to include short descriptions of the different focuses to show the prospective student more detail on what they will be studying.
