Mid-Semester Evaluations

Faculty mid-semester evaluations can be done in any class. They consist of a trained facilitator working with students and their instructor in the middle of a semester to improve teaching and learning. Specifically, the facilitator interviews the instructor and the class to ascertain positive changes in instruction and learning. Please contact Diane Johnson for more information ( email dlj1@humboldt.edu or call 826-4240).

Mid-semester Evaluations:

  • Help you to discover your students' concerns and concrete suggestions regarding your class.
  • Provide professional and objective feedback about your classroom approach and instruction.
  • Empower students by giving them a voice in their education.
  • Offer you the possibility of improving your end-of-the-semester evaluations by improving teaching and learning before the end of the semester.
  • Are completely confidential and separate from retention and tenure.
  • Allow you over six weeks to make the desired changes.
  • Take 20-30 minutes of class time

  • Facilitator Positions Available:

The Office of Academic Affairs is funding Graduate Teaching Assistants and Part-time instructors to facilitate mid-semester evaluations across campus. They will be paid $60 for each evaluation that they facilitate. A facilitator must attend a workshop during the fifth week in the semester in order to be eligible to receive a stipend. Before the workshop a potential facilitator must go to Diane Johnson's office (Library 6) and pick up pertinent information. A mid-semester evaluation can be a valuable learning experience for everyone involved, and other interested instructors are also invited to attend the workshop. A facilitator normally spends 4 to 5 hours for each evaluation. Contact Diane Johnson to reserve a place in the workshop.

If you would like to be evaluated, be a facilitator, or just want more information, please contact Diane Johnson. ( email dlj1@humboldt.edu or call 826-4240)
