Use of supporting evidence

In a persuasive speech, supporting material is called "supporting evidence." They are the facts that support your claims.

Supporting evidence needs to be relevant to the claim being made.
Supporting evidence needs to be sufficient to support the claim being made.
- You shouldn't draw conclusions based on too few pieces of evidence (hasty generalization).
Supporting evidence needs to come from reliable sources

+ =	EFFECTIVE	You used good supporting evidence.
+ =	PROBLEMATIC	There was not enough supporting evidence (or the evidence was weak or unrelated)
– =	DETRIMENTAL	You did not support your claims.
