Making your main points clear when giving the speech.

It's not enough to do a good preview statement; you also have to make your main points stand out by pausing before them and by using parallel language structure to help us identify them.

Note

SYMBOL KEY:

Interpretation
! =

SUPERIOR

Your speech was exceptionally well organized and your organizational pattern made it easy to identify the main points.
+ =

EFFECTIVE

Your speech was well organized and it was easy to identify main points.
+ =

PROBLEMATIC

Your organization basically worked: we could identify main points well enough, but would be stronger through using a more creative organizational pattern and better use of transitions.
– =

DETRIMENTAL

Better organization of your Main Points is needed. Make sure that the ideas relate and follow a logic or strong organizational pattern. It was too hard to identify your main points and movement between them.
BTRPHRA
BETTER PHRASING Put more effort into phrasing your main points. Remember, they should be in full sentences and exhibit parallelism whenever possible.
LABELS
DON'T USE SPEECH LABELS Try not to use the "label" of speech elements, such as saying "my preview statement" or "my main points" but use more natural, prosaic language.
BTR PAUSE
BETTER PAUSING We would better be able to discern the different ideas in your speech if you paused more between them.
