Phrasing of preparation outline headers

How you phrase your Specific Purpose and Central Idea matters and is described in both your text and in the help section of the Speech Outliner application.

Specific Purpose should be phrased as a single split infinitive phrase that starts with "To inform my audience..."
- It is what you are trying to accomplish with your speech clearly, specifically and succinctly stated.
Central Idea should be phrased as a single sentence that encapsulates your main points.
- Don't write your Central Idea until your main points are finally set.
- If you change your main points, check your Central Idea again and change it to accurately reflect your new main points.
No points were deducted this round if your phrasing was incorrect but will be in the next round.

+ =	EFFECTIVE	Specific Purpose and Central Idea were properly stated.
+ =	PROBLEMATIC	Specific Purpose and Central Idea were too long or too clumsy or too general and vague. Review.
– =	DETRIMENTAL	Specific Purpose and Central Idea were improperly stated; review before you prepare your next preparation outline.
