Use of connectives

Connective help us move from idea to idea. You were expected to use them in this round to demonstrate that you understand their function. Good use of connectives will be crucial to the success of your longer speeches.

Use transitions to state the idea you are leaving and preview the idea you are moving to.
Use internal previews when you have a complex set of sub- or sub-sub-points.
Likewise, it is wise to use internal summaries to "wrap up" after a complex set of sub- or sub-sub-points.
Sign posting helps the audience to know your place in a longer list of items.

+ =	PROBLEMATIC	Your use of connectives was good, but better phrasing, especially pausing between elements, could make the transitions smoother.
– =	DETRIMENTAL	Use more connectives and better transitions to move between main points. Review and try to use more internal previews, sign posts, and internal reviews.
