The Readings. The readings listed above are required. Class attendence and participation in the class discussions are required. A good way to participate is to come to class with a question or comment on the reading for the day. Another good way is to participate in the discussion of the in-class presentations.
Weekend Questions. There will be two sets of weekend questions for this course. The questions will be handed out on a Friday and will be due the next Monday. There will be 3-4 questions to choose from. You will be required to write on one, and only one, in each of the two sets. See above for due dates. Each Weekend Question will be worth 50 points.
In-class Presentation. It is expected that the student will give a 5-10 minute presentation on the reading for the day. This should consist in an exposition of the primary argument of the reading, an assessment of the argument (valid, invalid, acceptable, etc), and comments intended to show how important the argument is in Kuhn's overall program. 50 points.
Research Paper. Research Paper. This is intended to be a major term paper, in the range of 10-15 pages. You may use any or all of the materials we will have used in class, but must incorporate at least 3 outside readings, only one of which can be via the internet. 100 points. A Statement of Intention is due on ???????, in class, which should include the primary thesis of the paper, a preliminary argument, and the details of at least 2 outside sources expected to be used.
Quizzes. I do not intend to give quizzes in this class, as long as it is clear to me that everyone is doing the readings each and every day. If it turns out otherwise, then there will be daily or weekly quizzes. Each worth 10 points.
