My name is Eric and I am an undergraduate student studying environmental resource engineering at Humboldt State University. I choose this program because of a life long interest I've had with water. The area where I grew used to be entirely made up of wetlands. The Sacramento river would regularly flood the land where my childhood house now sits, however it was leveed and thousands of homes were built in a major flood zone, including my own. Water is incredibily important, and how we use and interact with the water systems around us greatly interests me. My goal as an environmental engineer is to develop more effecient and sustainable ways of doing so.
Outside of school, I try to spend as much of my time either dancing in the community or writing and performing music. I also enjoy traveling and the new experiences it offers. There is nothing more fulfilling to me than exeriencing something new and outside my comfort zone, both personally and professionally. Such experiences never fail to teach me more about myself and what I am capable of. The new experience I am most looking forward to is a study abroad opportunity I am applying for in the Dominican Republic. The program focuses on appropriate technology, which coincides with my interests in engineering, as well as in spanish language education. I hope to give as much as I am sure I will gain from such an incredible experience.
