Spring, 2016
– logo, design, illustrator
This project was a request from the Humboldt State University Library to create a new logo that expressed their ideals of curiosity, community, and knowledge. Designers were also given a tour of the library to be fully away of the kind of environment the library gives. We were also asked to place our logos on everyday products to fully grasp the functionality of the logo. For my logo I decided to keep the iconic Humboldt redwood, but simplify it so that the shape is recognizable as a redwood. I decided to create an arrow with the tree to represent moving forward and spirit of adventure that I felt that the library was portraying. Under the arrow I added three figures that are child like because of the growth that comes along with going to college and the community members that use this library. After seeing my logo, I felt that adding the children lost some of the strength that the tree-arrow had, and if I could re-enter my logo I would have simplified the shapes of the tree and then left the children figures out of it.
