1/2000 - 8/2000: Humboldt State University, Interim Marine Services Superintendent.

1996-2000: Telonicher Marine Laboratory, Director, Humboldt State University.

1985-Present: Humboldt State University, Professor, Department of Environmental Resources Engineering.

1981-Present: Consultant, Eureka, California.

Involved in a variety of projects for different organizations including:
  1. seismic hazard evaluation and geotechnical engineering for public schools and junior colleges
  2. writing EPA 305
  3. water quality assessment reports for indian reservations
  4. laboratory studies for both dynamic and static properties of soils
  5. evaluation of laboratory equipment and procedures
  6. MSW and hazardous waste landfill design
  7. solid waste management
  8. nuclear waste disposal

1981-1985: Humboldt State University, Associate Professor

Involved in both teaching and research in the areas of marine and terrestrial soil mechanics, soil dynamics, earthquake engineering, thermal soil mechanics, environmental geotechnology, MSW and hazardous waste landfill design, solid waste management, and structural engineering.

1984-1990: Telonicher Marine Laboratory, Director, Humboldt State University.

Responsible for the operation of the Laboratory in accordance with its function as an interdisciplinary instructional and research facility. Duties of this assignment included: supervision of non-academic staff; development of general policies and other operational guidelines; budgeting and expending support funds, development of planning initiatives which served to maintain the utilization of laboratory, acted as Laboratory liaison to the local community; supervision of the Diving Safety Officer; supervision of certain boat maintenance activities. In addition, served as ex-officio member and chair of the Marine Sciences Steering Committee.

1979-1981: Lehigh University, Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering and Associate Director Marine Geotechnical Laboratory.

Involved in both teaching and research in the areas of marine and terrestrial soil mechanics, soil dynamics, earthquake engineering and thermal soil mechanics.

1974-1979: Fugro, Inc., Laboratory Manager, Project Manager, Consulting Engineers and Geologists.

Involved in a wide variety of work in soil dynamics, earthquake engineering, soil mechanics and all phases of laboratory testing; organized and conducted numerous laboratory and analytical studies on soils underlying nuclear power plants, dam sites, and offshore oil platforms. Developed and constructed numerous laboratory cyclic test apparatus including cyclic simple shear and cyclic triaxial systems.

1972-1974: University of California at Los Angeles

Post-graduate research engineer.

1970-1972: California State University at Long Beach

Part-time instructor.

1968-1969: Fluor Corporation, Ltd.

Assistant structural engineer.

1967-1968: Department of Agriculture

Surveying aide. Conducted routine survey operations; level nets, traverse and road alignments, and supervised survey party.
