Research
Interest/Focus Environmental justice in Indian Country means
halting the relentless corporate exploitation of the lands, culture,
health, and psyches of Indigenous peoples. My research focuses on methods
of achieving justice and autonomy, and restoring the relationship between
Indigenous people and ancestral homelands. The relationship between culture, spirituality,
religion, criminology, law, resources and economics is critical in defining
how Indigenous peoples approach governance and chart paths into the future.
My research emphasizes acting for future generations by respecting and
incorporating ancestral values and traditions of the past. Current research is in autonomous governance,
tribal water rights, restoration of riparian ecosystems, and long-term
impacts of the 2010 Gulf Coast oil spill on coastal Indigenous riparian
populations.
