For this assignment I was to select and study a known concept album, including reviews and criticisms. After gathering information I was to design the packaging for the album. The graphics and typography needed to be able to visually convey the content for the album. I selected Nine Inch Nails: The Downward Spiral. Conceptually the album was centered around a manÕs struggle with life, women, religion, violence and drugs were the largest themes throughout the album which I chose to focus on. For the cover I wanted to visually demonstrate all of the struggles in one composite. I used my picture of a girls bare neck and shoulders, along with a picture of MichelangeloÕs The Creation Of Adam, with needles covering AdamÕs arm. I gave the girl reptile skin as one of the songs is titled. Inside I tried to keep it more striking but simple. For the CD I chose to use a black and white photo of floral wallpaper, and when the CD was removed the picture of a man with a gun to his head against that same wallpaper greets the viewer, also brining the tragic message behind this album to light..
